Dennis Byrnes is a native Rhode Islander, spending his childhood in Connecticut, New York City, in addition to Rhode Island. His passion for the arts was evident from early childhood, singing professionally with his brother before settling in at college. He attended Swain School of Design, New Bedford, MA, graduating with a BFA in Painting. He studied painting under David Smith, who was a student of Willem de Kooning.

After graduation, Dennis pursued his artistic career in New York City. He was fortunate to be able to intern with Andy Warhol for over a year at his studio in NYC. This opportunity provided him with experience in learning the intricacies of a major artist’s behind-the-scenes production operation.

Returning to Rhode Island, Dennis put aside his career path as a professional artist for several years, immersing himself in the business world. He started a successful executive search firm and worked tirelessly in the AIDS community as a volunteer caring for others. All the while, he kept his love of painting in his heart, donating his personal paintings to family and friends alike and participating in occasional exhibitions.

During the past 5 years, Dennis has continued to refine his art. His painting style ranges from Impressionism to Pointillism to Fauvism. Although he continues to find pleasure in memorializing special people and events in his life, he is building a solid portfolio of varied subject matters and styles. Dennis continues to display his work locally in different venues, ranging from coffee shops to galleries to artist studios.
